We've had some questions regarding how Kickstarter actually works. I thought I'd explain the workings of a Kickstarter campaign, like Nectar and Elixir, right here. The easiest way to understand Kickstarter is to think about public TV or radio. You know those PBS fund drives? Same concept- almost. On PBS, when they come on to ask for support, they tell you all the reasons that you should give. They then offer an incentive for donating.

Kickstarter is similar- we put up a video and tell you all the great things about our project. Unlike PBS, though, the rewards on Kickstarter are usually awesome. In our project, for instance, we are offering the very seat clamps you are supporting as pre-orders, but at a $5 discount!

One other major distinction is that with Kickstarter, the project has to be 100% funded for any donors to be charged. If the project doesn't hit the goal in the allotted time,  nobody is charged. If we do hit the goal, then the pledges all go through and we release the Nectar and Elixir on the world in a raging torrent of awesomeness!

So really, there is no downside to donating to a Kickstarter project. If the project succeeds, you know that it is well capitalized, and will be successful. If the project falls short, your donation is never called in. This is a win / win situation.
